Docents

The Art Center’s Docent Program consists of generous individuals of all ages. They are extensively trained in specific areas of interest and are mentored until they are completely comfortable with their duties.

GENERAL tours
(includes exhibition and building tours)
General docents provide visitors with a brief history of the Art Center, and guide tours through the Art Center’s current exhibitions.

Qualifications to be a docent include:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Availability for tour assignments
  • Availability to attend training sessions
  • A love of learning
  • A love of Art
  • Enthusiasm

Volunteers are also needed and welcomed as assistants at ARTSPLASH and in the education department.


ARTWORKS tours
ARTWORKS docents offer tours to fifth-grade students of the Art Center’s exhibitions, and close with a hands-on project in one of the classrooms.

Admission to the Art Center is free.*

The Art Center is barrier-free. Wheelchairs are available on request.

* A moderate fee may be charged for special exhibitions & events. Most exhibitions are free to Sioux City Art Center members. Join!
